Before reading the book, I read the following summary and was disappointed with the triteness of the statements, but decided to read it anyway since I already had it and I loved the title: Talent is Never Enough. There was almost nothing life-changing in any of the words...a couple good example stories.
However, I noticed a life-changing difference between the list and the book: when I read the list, they were individual truths, unrelated to my life. When I was reading the book I actually thought about my specific talents. I believed the truth of the statement and then asked, "Am I applying this to my talent?"
Most of my recent efforts have been to develop new talents. Maxwell wrote, "Develop the talent you have, not the one you want." I have been setting aside some great talents in order to diversify my talent portfolio, when those things are not a part of my brand. Talents should be disciplined, diversity should be the hobbies and not the other way around.
Read it slowly and apply it and save $25.99 and the hours it takes to read it.
